Famous faces are urging people to swap, buy second-hand or re-wear a pre-loved jumper in support of Save the Children’s annual festive fundraiser.
The charity’s Christmas Jumper Day, which takes place on Thursday, is this year encouraging people to join the festivities in an eco-conscious way.
First launched in 2012, Christmas Jumper Day has raised over £37 million with people around the world wearing their festive jumpers for one day in December and donating to charity.
Save the Children Northern Ireland hopes this year the public will support their campaign, which has received the support of numerous celebrities including Irish TV personality Laura Whitmore.
“Most of us have a festive jumper somewhere in our wardrobe, and if not, why not borrow one from a friend,” she said.
“I’m always letting friends borrow my clothes, and they let me borrow theirs in return.”
Coleraine knitwear designer Hope McAuley has also gave her backing to the appeal and is urging people to “wear your most cheerful jumper, spread the joy, and donate to Save the Children”.
Belfast singer Sasha Samara said she will be wearing her pre-loved festive jumper to “support the vital services of Save the Children”.
“Your small contribution can provide life-changing support - like food, healthcare, and education - to vulnerable children around the world.”
Other celebrities such as Alison Hammond, Olly Murs and Myleene Klass are taking part.
