Cavan v Monaghan: Match details, throw-in time and how to watch as Monaghan begin life without McManus against neighbours Cavan

Conor McManus announced his retirement from inter-county football last Friday

Although it was seen coming months prior, it was still a shock to Monaghan fans, and GAA fans in general to see Conor McManus’s retirement announcement last week.

However, new Farney manager Gabriel Bannigan and his side will still feel that they can come out on top against Ulster rivals Cavan when they meet in their National League Division Two season opener.

Kingspan Breffini will be the setting as these two noisy neighbours meet again as they did at the start of last year’s championship season.

Monaghan will start the year with Mícheál Bannigan as captain now that McManus has hung up his boots, with Ryan McAnespie and Rory Beggan as vice-captains.

Former Breffini captain Gearóid McKernan returns to Raymond Galligan’s panel and they will also have former Leitrim goalkeeper Nevin O’Donnell at their disposal for the coming year.

Paddy Lynch could make his return to the Cavan fold after sitting out last year due to an ACL tear that he sustained in the meeting between these two sides in Clones in the early stages of the Ulster championship.

When and where is the Monaghan-Cavan match in the National Football League?

Cavan will host Monaghan at Kingspan Breffini in Cavan town on Saturday, January 25.

Throw-in is scheduled for 6pm.
