After a faltering start against Tyrone, Derry hope to give new manager Paddy Tally’s old side Kerry a run for their money this Sunday.
Reigning champions Derry were given a rude awakening by Tyrone, who ran out seven-point winners in Omagh as Malachy O’Rourke outsmarted the former Kerry coach in what was their first game as Tyrone and Derry bosses.
The Oak leaders are familiar with their opponents having met them twice in each of the last two inter-county seasons.
The Kingdon ended Mickey Harte’s reign as Derry manager after defeating the National League champions in the All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park, reminiscent of their 2023 All-Ireland semi-final victory over the Oak Leaf County.
Kerry will look to get their season up and running after their opening home fixture against Donegal was postponed due to the effects that Storm Eowyn had on travel.
David Clifford is set to miss this fixture, as Jack O’Connor stated ahead of their Donegal clash before it was postponed.
Although Kerry will be without their generational talent of a forward, they will not be without firepower as players like Paudie Clifford and Seanie O’Shea remain in the fold.
