Errigal Ciaran ratings: Peter Harte outstanding as Tyrone men die with the boots on

The Tyrone and Ulster champions came back from 13 points down to put the sweat on Cuala at Croke Park

Darragh McAnenly: Didn’t have much chance with any of Cuala’s goals. Struggled to find Errigal midfield in first half and misdirected kickout led to O’Callaghan’s first score. 6

Ciaran Quinn: A tireless performance. Picked up Keating and restricted him to a point from play. Dived on forward’s right boot to prevent him scoring late goal. 8

Aidan McCrory: Pushed out to midfield to mark O Cofaigh-Byrne – Errigal were all over the place at that stage. Niall O’Callaghan gave him a torrid time of it in first half but he settled. 6

Cormac Quinn: Con O’Callaghan gave him the slip in a withdrawn role and was able to cut through the Errigal defence. Stuck to his task though. 6

Peter Og McCartan: Didn’t look himself in the first half but was full of energy and running in the second as Errigal rallied. Lost Groarke who burst through for Cuala’s insurance score. 6

Niall Kelly: The spare man in defence he was swamped time and again when Cuala broke. Mistimed tackle on Cillian Dunne gifted free to Keating and perhaps could have stopped O’Callaghan in build-up to third goal. 6

Tiarnan Colhoun: Had a number of marking jobs including Doran and McMorrow. Worked hard and was alert to win kickout and begin move for Ciaran McGinley score. 7

Ben McDonnell: Crowded out when he made an early break and got booked for frustrated reaction to losing ball. Not an attacking threat but was back on his own line to prevent Cuala getting a third goal. They got it a couple of minutes later. 6

Joe Oguz: Ill last week but put in a shift. Battled with Duffy in midfield as Errigal struggled on their own kickouts. Traded scores with O Cofaigh-Byrne. Pushed to full-forward for final quarter. 6.5

Peter Harte: Sent off for injury-time strike but what a game he had. Vital interception to cut out ball to O Cofaigh Byrne in second minute. Briefly moved up front after the break, he sparked Errigal fightback. Forst a point, then the purest of strikes for the goal. Superb pass for Kavanagh score too. 9

Thomas Canavan: Forgettable first half, terrific second half when he landed four fine points to give his club a chance. Short with a difficult late free. 7.5

Ciaran McGinley: Chasing shadows like his teammates in first half. Imposed himself on the game in the second and added a score as Errigal came back from the dead. 6

Odhran Robinson: A battler. Moved into midfield and picked up Duffy. Won Cuala kickout and got on the end of move to apply finish too. Won free for Tommy Canavan before he was taken off. 6.5

Darragh Canavan: Danny Conroy left him on the turf with a roughhouse tackle after Canavan beat him to a ball and should have been booked. Forced off with concussion after 22 minutes. A massive loss. 5

Ruairi Canavan: Didn’t see enough ball. Brilliant finish from the right in first half. Added two frees in the second and blazed wide under pressure. Also taken to hospital with suspected concussion. 6

Subs:

Mark Kavanagh: Replaced Darragh Canavan after 22 minutes. Earned free for Thomas Canavan. 6

Eoin Kelly: Shored up the middle of the Errigal defence after he came in for McGinley. 5.5

Padraig McGirr: Beat one man, then another before leaving four in it with 54th minute point. Shot blocked in injury-time. 6

Ronan McRory: Not on long enough to be rated.
