KILLEAVY will face Clan na Gael in the quarter-finals for the second year running after this seven-point win over Granemore in Silverbridge yesterday.

Steven McDonnell’s side were the better team and pocketed their third championship victory on the trot. The south Armagh men led for the majority of the contest and a late Aron Magennis goal put some daylight between the teams.

Granemore battled to the end but couldn’t get the scores to change the game. Instead, it was Killeavy who hit the net in the final minutes, with a fantastic catch from Ciaron O’Hanlon at one end of the field starting a move that saw the ball end up in the Granemore net.

Pete Carr sliced over the opening score of the day after 30 seconds and Granemore could have added a goal to their tally. Full-back Karl McQuade was through one-on-one, but Shea Magill denied his effort on goal with a brilliant save.

Callum O’Hare tied things up and Oisin King and Padraig Doyle both raised white flags at either end. Ronan McGuinness and Caolan McConville both swung over scores, opening up a two-point gap.

Niall Magennis and Doyle exchanged efforts while Miceal McNamee opened his account with a pointed free. O’Hanlon and Michael King cancelled each other out before the break and Killeavy went in 0-7 to 0-4 ahead

Killeavy extended that advantage at the start of the second period as they registered the first three points after the turnaround. Magill slotted over a free-kick, his first of three, while McNamee and McConville claimed a point apiece.

Eoghan O’Neill got Granemore up and running but his pointed effort was matched by a second from Magill. O’Hare and substitute Conor Rafferty swapped scores as did Doyle and Magill.

Carr grabbed a second for Granemore, while Jason O’Neill slotted over a free to offer Granemore a chance late on, but from Magennis’s goal killed that.
