Fr Davies Cup final

St Patrick’s, Keady 2-10 St Catherine’s, Armagh 1-6

A GOAL from Maeve Quinn in the second minute set St Patrick’s, Keady on their way to a sixth success in last night’s Fr Davies Cup final in the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds.

Quinn flashed that early shot to the net to give her side the foothold St Catherine’s couldn’t get in their second successive final.

The girls from Convent Road pressed hard for their opening score but found Katie Donnelly in superb form, with her defence sweeping up other goal efforts.

Eventually, Maeve Hayes fired over a great point only for Fiadhna Loughran to respond with a point from a 45. Hayes pointed again before Quinn scored her second goal, reacting quickest when a ball went loose in the Armagh goal area

Keady quickly built on that score and added points from eventual player-of-the-match Loughran (2) and Laoise McConnell before Hayes completed the first-half scoring with a badly-needed goal for St Catherine’s.

Loughran pointed twice on the restart before Hayes shot her third point. Caoimhe Hart became the second scorer for St Catherine’s during the last quarter and the gap was closed to six points on a couple of occasions, before Loughran, with her seventh point, and Laoise McConnell finished the scoring in added time.

Keady will be in action again on Saturday week, February 1, when they travel down to Galway to take on Connacht champions Portumna Community School in the All-Ireland Lily Spence Cup semi-final.
