A property company linked to the Montgomery Transport Group has revealed plans to develop new roadside services on either side of the A8 dual carriageway.
Thames Trader Limited has notified Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council of its proposal for the sites, located just north of Glengormley.
The plans details two roadside service stations, as well as parking and new slip roads on the Ballynure Road.
Thames Trader Ltd is owned by Harold and Noreen Montgomery.
The family transport business they founded in 1970 has grown into one of the biggest logistics operations across Ireland and Britain.
Ballvesey Holdings, the parent group for their extensive business interests, spans transport, distribution, vehicle rentals, trailers, construction equipment and corporate services.
The 33-acres featured in the proposal of application notice (PAN) submitted this week, is less than one mile from the Montgomery transport hub at Ballyearl Business Park.
The Montgomery Group secured planning permission in November 2023 for a new £6m distribution facility at the business park.
Thames Trader, which was set up in 2020 as a development and letting business, is continuing to expand its property portfolio, which includes some well-known retail sites.
According to Companies House, the company acquired the Logans of Cloughmill’s retail complex on Frosses Road in December 2021.
The well-known Co Antrim retail site was initially marketed in 2019 after the owners announced their retirement plans.
It had initially attracted a £2.5 million price tag, but failed to sell until the end of 2021.
Thames Trader has also acquired a number of former Easons sites in on Lisburn’s Bow Street and Bangor’s Main Street.
Easons closed its seven Northern Ireland stores in March 2020 in response to the Covid-19, and never reopened them.
The Montgomery’s also owns the former Dunnes Stores site on Queen Street, Coleraine, which is now occupied by Menarys.
Other assets includes the former PSNI station in Ballyclare, which went on the market in 2019 for £475,000.
More detail on Thames Trader’s plans for the new roadside services will go on public display during a public event at Corrs Corner Hotel on August 29, where members of the design team will be in attendance between 2pm and 7pm.
