The price of diesel, petrol and home heating oil in the north have increased for the second week running, new analysis from the Consumer Council show.

It’s the highest price detected by the weekly price checker since the start of September.

The average price of petrol also crept up in the past week, according to the Consumer Council, with one litre new averaging 131.2p, the highest price since mid-September.

The price of home heating oil has also jumped in recent days, with that average order of 500 litres coming in at £319.91.

It means the average price of 500 litres of kerosene has increased by around £66 in the past fortnight.

It’s the highest price for home heating oil recorded by the Consumer Council since July 2024.

It follows an increase in the wholesale price of crude oil in recent weeks, with a barrel of Brent crude oil breaching the $80 mark last week.
