Kyran Durnin: Man arrested on suspicion of murdering boy

Gardai investigating the disappearance of Co Louth boy Kyran Durnin have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

The arrest happened at the same time as searches of two private homes in Drogheda.

Officers carried out the searches to try and find any evidence that might reveal the current whereabouts of the eight-year-old and what happened to him.

Gardai previously said they believe he was murdered.

The arrested man is being is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the east of the country.

A woman arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder by police investigating the disappearance of Kyran was released without charge late afternoon on Wednesday.

Gardai issued a further appeal to any person with any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, to contact the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or speak with any member of the service.

The murder investigation was launched some weeks after a missing person’s probe began in late August.
