Hundreds of people have taken part in a fundraising activities to raise cash for a Co Armagh GAA player to help in his battle against cancer.
Crossmaglen Rangers star Caolan Finnegan (20) was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer last year.
A former Ulster Colleges All-Star winner, who is known as ‘Stringer’ to friends, had surgery to remove a tumour just days after lining out for Crossmaglen against Clan na Gael in the Armagh senior championship last year.
The popular player has been receiving treatment for his condition ever since.
He previously represented his county at all underage grades and is a former player with St Joseph’s High School, Crossmaglen, and St Colman’s College, Newry.
Hundreds of people took part in fundraising events in Co Armagh at the weekend, including a ‘Stroll for Stringer’ event, from Crossmaglen Rangers clubhouse to Donaghmoyne Fontenoys GAA club, which organised by former Crossmaglen players on Sunday.
Caolan has been receiving treatment for his condition in Germany and is due to return there for another round of specialist treatment.
A Go Fund Me page set up as part of the funding drive has already raised more than £243,000, including an anonymous donation of £10,000, as GAA people and others rally to the cause.
