An uninsured and previously disqualified driver stopped by police after travelling at 112 miles per hour on a motorway was more than double the legal alcohol limit.

The male motorist was stopped after PSNI officers detected the speed - 42mph above the national speed limit - as he travelled on the M1 motorway on Tuesday.

In a post to the PSNI’s NI Road Policing and Safety page on Facebook, a spokesperson said: “When speaking to the driver we noticed a smell of alcohol from his breath. A roadside breath test was conducted which found the driver to be more than double the permitted limit.

“To make things worse, the driver was also disqualified from driving and was uninsured.”
