The funeral of a father and son killed in a road crash in Co Armagh has heard how “love was very important in their lives”.
Peter (63) and Loughlin (28) Devlin from the Tynan area of north Armagh died in a two-car collision last Friday.
Four other people, including a baby, were taken to hospital following the crash, which happened close to the village of Killylea shortly before 1pm.
One woman suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition.
Family and friends gathered on Wednesday at the Church of St Joseph, Tynan to pay their final respects to the two men.
Fr Dermot McCaul told mourners at the joint funeral that love was important to the father and son.
“We are only gathered here today for one reason, out of love – love, empathy – for the Devlin family,” he said.
“We are here out of love.”
The priest also spoke of how the community remains in shock following the tragedy.
“No words of any of us here today can grasp the enormity of the grief and the sense of loss,” he said.
“As a community we’re stunned, we’re still in shock.”
The priest added that “Peter and Loughlin both symbolised hard work”.
“Loughlin had started out a new business with his father in law, again, to provide for their families,” he said.
“Faith and providing for their families was what was very important to each one of them.”
He added: “It’s impossible to sum up the grief here today; maybe each one of us can be a little bit more careful on the roads.
“I’m speaking to myself as well as each one of you. Please... this brings home the heartache that can be caused.
“Please, please show more care on the roads.”
Police last week appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
A statement said: “Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision, and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.
“You can call 101 and quote reference 740 of 27/12/24.”
