A man arrested during an alleged domestic incident linked to Police Ombudsman Marie Anderson has been cautioned by police.
The man was arrested during the incident in September 2023.
At the time, the PSNI said officers “received a report of a domestic incident” and attended an address in Co Down.
“Police were unable to gain access to the address and following contact, a man aged 63 was arrested for common assault and interviewed,” police said.
The man was later released and a file was forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
Sources previously suggested Ms Anderson, who took up her ombudsman role in 2019, held discussions with a senior PSNI officer after the alleged incident at her home.
In 2023 West Midlands Police was asked by the PSNI to “lead an investigation and assess whether there are any further criminal offences following an alleged incident in Co Down”.
In a statement on Monday the PPS said it “carefully considered all the available evidence on a police investigation file reporting one individual arrested in respect of an alleged domestic incident” in Co Down in September 2023.
“Having applied the Test for Prosecution, it was determined that the Evidential Test was met for the offence of common assault, and that, having regard to all the circumstances, the matter could properly be dealt with by way of a caution,” the statement said.
“The caution was accepted by the reported individual in September 2024 and administered by police.
“All parties were informed at the time.”
A spokeswoman for the PSNI said: “There is an ongoing police investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment at this time.”
On Monday Ms Anderson returned to work after almost seven months of “extended absence” due to illness.
