Man charged with attempted murder after Belfast stabbing

Police in Belfast are investigating what is believed to be the attempted murder of a young woman overnight at Ballynure Street in north Belfast.
Neighbours say that a man attacked the woman - believed to be in her early twenties - in her home and stabbed her several times before attempting to throw her through a window of the property.
Forensics officers have been at the scene all day and at least two separate scenes in the area are being held pending further investigations.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in north Belfast on Friday.

The 25-year-old man will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday 26 August charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

The PSNI say a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital after an incident on Ballynure Street in the city, where it was reported a man had forced entry into a house before assaulting her.

“Detectives in Belfast have charged a man with attempted murder following a stabbing in north Belfast yesterday, Friday 23rd August,” a PSNI statement said.

“The man, aged 25, has also been charged with aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 26th August.

“As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. The Police Service’s Public Protection Branch continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which might assist, to get in touch.”
