Man struck with hurley stick during Co Down break-in

Assault happened at property in Crossgar on Monday evening

A man has been arrested by police investigating a burglary in Co Down in which a male householder was struck on the head with a hurley stick.

The incident happened at a property in the Killyleagh Street area of Crossgar shortly before 7pm on Monday.

Two men entered the property before two residents who had been asleep were assaulted.

One of the intruders was armed with a hurley stick and grabbed one of the residents by the throat before striking the other on his head with the weapon, causing injuries that required hospital treatment.



A short time later police arrested a 35-year-old man at an address in Crossgar on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He remained in police custody on Tuesday.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information or footage that could assist with our investigation to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 1452 09/12/24.”
