Man sustains ‘serious injuries’ after home is burgled in Newry by masked men wielding umbrellas

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them

Police are investigating a burglary involving a group of masked men in south Belfast on September 7.
Police are investigating an aggravated burglary involving two men, who are understood to have been masked.

A man is in hospital after sustaining ‘serious injuries’ to his arm after an aggravated burglary in Newry.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 4pm in the Patrick Street area of the city when two masked men, holding umbrellas and wearing high-vis vests, broke into a property.

Police say an ‘altercation ensued’ with a man inside the home.

”The victim, aged in his 30s, sustained serious injuries to his arm – believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object,” a spokesperson said.

”He also suffered extensive bruising and further injuries to other parts of his body.

”Officers attended the scene and the man was transported to hospital for medical treatment to his injuries.

“He remains in a serious but stable condition at this time.”

Enquiries are ongoing and police are asking for information regarding the two suspects.

”We want to hear from you if you noticed two men in the area between 3.45pm and 4.30pm yesterday, Monday 16th December, who were understood to be masked,” the spokesperson said.



”The umbrellas they were carrying were large and black - one of which had red writing on it.”
