Ulster Unionist councillor Diana Armstrong has been co-opted to become the party’s new Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA replacing outgoing party colleague Tom Elliott.

Lord Elliott was appointed to the House of Lords on the eve of July’s General Election in which Ms Armstrong lost out to Sinn Féin’s Pat Cullen.

Ms Armstrong has represented the Erne North constituency in Fermanagh and Omagh District Council since 2016, serving as chair of the local authority in 2020/2021.

The Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland, David Marshall, gave notice that Ms Armstrong was to be co-opted to the seat on Friday.

The move comes a day before the party’s annual conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast.
