One person taken to hospital after south Belfast house fire

Emergency services were called to the scene after 8am on Thursday

One person has been taken to hospital following a house fire in south Belfast.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a bungalow in the Benburb Street area after 8am on Thursday.

Five fire appliances, including an aerial platform, attended the scene with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: “NIAS despatched two emergency ambulance crews and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident.

“Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”



The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said five fire appliances attended the scene.

“Two appliances from Cadogan Fire Station, one appliance from Springfield Fire Station, one appliance from Central Fire Station and an aerial appliance attended the incident,” a spokesperson said.

“Firefighters were called to reports of a semi-detached bungalow on fire in Benburb Street, Belfast.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets.

“One casualty was transferred to the care of NIAS. The incident was dealt with by 9.46am.”

The street remains closed to traffic.
