Two men were arrested and £75,000 seized by the PSNI’s organised crime unit after stopping a vehicle in Co Down.
The vehicle was stopped on the Belfast Road in Newry on Monday by organised crime detectives along with colleagues from the roads policing unit.
“Following a proactive policing operation, officers stopped a vehicle at the Belfast Road area,” a PSNI spokesperson said. The cash was in Euro.
“Assisted by colleagues from the Roads Policing Unit, a search was conducted of the vehicle and around £75,000 in cash was recovered."
The PSNI said the money has been taken “for further forensic examinations”.
“Two men aged 49 and 42 years old were arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property. Both are currently in police custody at this time,” the spokesperson said.
