A man has been arrested after biting and kicking police officers who responded to reports of objects being thrown at cars in Armagh.

Up to five vehicles are understood to have been damaged in the vicinity of the Moy Road roundabout on Wednesday morning.

Police received a report that a man was obstructing traffic and throwing objects at vehicles at around 8.30am.

A suspect was located, who is believed to have been linked to a earlier assault at Armagh Bus Station at Lonsdale Road.

A PSNI spokesperson said the man was “acting in an aggressive and erratic manner and appeared unsteady on his feet”.

“During the course of arrest, the 33-year-old man became aggressive towards police, kicking one officer on their leg and biting two others on their hands,” the spokesperson said.

All three officers remained on duty, while the man was arrested on suspicion of offences including disorderly behaviour, common assault, assault on police and criminal damage.

He was arrested again after exposing himself and spitting at a cell van door while being transported to custody.

The man remained in custody on Wednesday and police are appealing for anyone with information on the incidents, or footage, to contact them.

”Our officers deal with difficult and dangerous situations every day, and are here to help those in need,” the spokesperson said.

“Assaults on police officers and other emergency services colleagues will not be tolerated and should be condemned by everyone. It should never be accepted as being ‘part of the job’”
