A community has been left in “shock” following the death of a motorcyclist in Co Fermanagh.
The victim, who has been named locally as Ollie Murphy from Lisnaskea, died at the scene of the crash in Rosslea on Sunday evening.
Emergency services were alerted to the collision in the Dernawilt Road area shortly before 10.30pm.
Inspector Cherith Adair from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said: ”Sadly, the male motorcyclist passed away at the scene.
”An investigation to establish the circumstances is now underway, and the Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who may have any information which may assist, or who may have been travelling in the area at the time and captured any dash-cam or mobile phone footage, to get in touch.
”The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 1697 of 16/06/24.”
A death notice describes Mr Murphy as the “beloved son of Stephen and Angela (Née Little) and loving brother to Stephenie (Sophie), Gregory (Sinead), Padraig (Vanessa), Maurice (Fiona), Damien (Anne), Lisa Kiernan (James) and Amanda Oldfield (Alex)”.
In a Facebook tribute on Monday, Amanda Oldfield wrote: “R.I.P big brother xxx.”
Fermanagh and South Tyrone Sinn Féin MLA Áine Murphy said in a post: “My thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this terrible tragedy and with his family and friends at this very difficult and sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
Speaking with the Irish News, Fermanagh and Omagh councillor for the Erne East area, Noeleen Hayes, said: “We are in shock as a community with yet another tragic accident on our roads that has left a family in mourning for a loved one.
“I wish to offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends and hope they will receive the care and support of the community going forward at this deeply difficult time.”
