Third road death in two days after car crashes with lorry at Co Antrim roundabout

Collision at Ballynure follows fatal incidents in Dungannon and Victoria Bridge across Thursday and Friday

A man aged in his 70s has died following a road crash in Co Antrim on Friday night.

The collision, involving a black Porsche and a lorry, took place in Ballynure at around 6.30pm on Friday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman has been taken to hospital.

Inspector Cherith Adair of the Collision Investigation Unit said: “It was reported to police at around 6.30pm on Friday that a black Porsche Cayenne mounted a roundabout on the Belfast Road and collided with a lorry.

“Sadly a man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A woman has been taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

“The Belfast Road had been closed but has since reopened.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or dash-cam footage available, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1323 – 20/12/24.”

The Co Antrim crash is the third fatal road incident in the north since Thursday.

A 56-year-old man died following a serious crash on the Fyfin Road in Victoria Bridge, Co Tyrone on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian has died in hospital after a collision with a car in Dungannon on Friday evening.
