Three people taken to hospital following Donegal crash involving bus and car

Three people were taken to hospital following a crash involving a bus and a car in Co Donegal.

The collision happened just after 10am on Wednesday on the Letterkenny to Derry road between Manorcunningham and Newtown Cunningham close to Magherabeg National School.

It is believed there were 13 passengers on the Bus Éireann Expressway. Gardaí, ambulances and the fire service were at the scene of the crash.

“Bus Éireann can confirm a collision occurred involving one of our coaches operating Route 64, (Sligo to Derry) this morning just after 10am at Manorcunningham,” a spokesperson for the transport company said.

“Local emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel are in attendance at the scene and providing all necessary support.

“The collision will be investigated in line with our normal procedures.

“The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann.

“We would like to thank An Garda Síochána and the emergency services for their swift response to the incident.”

Gardaí said three people were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital but only as a precaution.

Local diversions were in place as the road was closed.
