Train timetables for Belfast’s new Grand Central Station have been published ahead of rail services departing from the new hub for the first time this weekend.

The £340m station opened its doors to bus passengers last month, but train operations were delayed to allow for a safety certification to take place.

Rail services will now begin from this Sunday.

Work at the new hub at Weavers Cross prompted the closure of the Lisburn-Belfast rail line during the summer months, causing heavy road traffic between the cities as a result.

It emerged this week that Translink paid over £1m to private companies for bus substitution services

Ahead of the first services on Sunday, Translink has published the new train timetable on its website.

The services will include the eight weekday Belfast to Dublin Enterprise trains - and seven on Sundays - however, the new hourly Enterprise service from Grand Central Station will not begin until Tuesday October 29.

The Enterprise trains were refurbished as part of a £12.2 million upgrade programme
The cross-border Enterprise service will begin from Belfast Grand Central Station on Sunday, but a new hourly timetable will not start until October 29.

Meanwhile, Translink has highlighted that the through service between Bangor and Portadown is ending from Sunday, as all services will now terminate at the new Belfast hub, which is replacing the old Great Victoria Street station.

Passengers are being advised to consider this change in travel plans.

A Translink spokesperson told the Irish News: “Rail passengers travelling from Bangor to Portadown will change trains at Belfast Grand Central Station once the rail line opens - and should allow extra time to interchange.

“A new timetable is now in place and available to view online at www.translink.co.uk and passengers can also plan their trip by using Translink’s Journey Planner.

“As the main terminus station for Belfast, the station will offer increased connectivity and integration with the wider public transport network for connections across Northern Ireland, ROI and beyond. It will also increase reliability and efficiency of services across the network”.
