A woman in her 50s has died following a house fire in west Belfast on Monday, police have confirmed.

Police first attended the fire at a house in the New Barnsley Park area at around 3.25pm on Monday alongside other emergency services.

The victim has been named locally as Debbie Burns, a mother-of-three.

A funeral notice described her as a loving mother, a devoted granny and cherished sister.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Christine Alexander said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze but, sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Police are conducting enquiries into this death, on behalf of the Coroner.

“At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
