Negotiations have already begun to secure Sean McComb a shot at the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.
McComb boxed his way to 11-0 as a pro after another skilful display against former sparring partner Siar Ozgul on MTK’s entertaining show in Wakefield, England on Wednesday night.
‘The Public Nuisance’ clinched a unanimous points win, using his long reach and fast hands to dominate Ozgul and his nimble footwork to spin out of harm’s way. He was never in any trouble against the determined London-based Turk.
“I’m very thankful to get the win the way I did,” said lean six-footer McComb, who described his build as “like a Long Kesh roll-up”.
He left the door open for an all-Belfast showdown with Paul Hyland junior but ‘Hylo’ is not expected to be his opponent if he fights for the Commonwealth belt.
“If Hyland wants the fights he can have the fight. We’re both MTK now and it’s a massive fight for Belfast. First fight back with an audience? Bang, bang, gravy chip!”
Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Dublin’s ‘King Kong’ Jono Carroll. Carroll came into the fight after a career-best win over former world champion Scott Quigg and looked on the way to another victory throughout the first half of his 10-rounder with Sean O’Hagan-trained Maxi Hughes.
But the Dub ran out of steam in the closing stages and Hughes finished strongly to take a narrow points win.
