Classy Kilcar gain revenge by edging Glenswilly out of Donegal SFC Championship

Kilcar 0-16 Glenswilly 1-9

Classy Kilcar gained a measure of revenge for last year’s county final defeat after putting Glenswilly out of the championship in a testy affair in Towney.

The winners had a whirlwind start in a wind assisted opening half and sprinted to a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by 20 minutes.

Michael Murphy tried hard to rally his troops in the absence of Neil Gallagher but the winners were well worth their half-time lead of 0-9 to 0-4.

And they looked to be cruising when the McHugh’s and Paddy McBrearty pushed them to a 0-14 to 0-7 lead midway through the second half.

But a late goal from the Glen set up a frenetic finish.

Bundoran 2-19 Sean MacCumhaill’s 1-8

This was an easy victory for the home side, for whom, county star Jamie Brennan was red-carded in the dying minute of this mostly one-sided affair in Bundoran.

Goals from Brennan and a well-crafted one from Tommy Hourihane pushed the winner’s to a half-time lead of 2-7 to 0-7 with Gary Wilson replying strongly for MacCumhaill’s.

Marty O’Reilly came on for the losers in the second half and had a goal from Stephen Mulligan mid way through the half.

But that was the sole spark as Bundoran cantered to victory.

St Michael’s 6-12 Malin 1-10

Perennial championship contenders St Michael’s hit Malin for six in Connolly Park in Inishowen.

Feisty veteran Colm McFadden was unstoppable hitting four goals with two from the penalty spot.

And Liam Paul Ferry grabbed the other two goals.

It was all one way in the opening half as the winners strolled to a 2-9 to 0-4 lead.

And it did not get any better for the losers in the second half as St Michael’s tacked on 4-3 to Malin’s 1-6.

Substitute Darren McLarkey grabbed a late goal for Malin but it did not affect matters in the slightest.

Killybegs 0-12 Naomh Muire 0-9

Eoghan Ban Gallagher was back after a trial with the Brisbane Lions to help power the Fishermen to a well-deserved victory over Naomh Muire at Fintra.

They overhauled an early Naomh Muire lead of 0-3 to 0-1 with Sean “Yank” Boyle and Paul “Yank” Boyle prominent for the losers.

Brendan McGuire and Hugh McFadden were on target for the winners who manage to turn over with a lead of 0-7 to 0-5 at half time.

County star Hugh McFadden, Daniel Breslin and Christopher added further points for the winners while Sean “Yank” Boyle kept Naomh Muire in touch.

But this was a deserved win for Killybegs, who have a great championship tradition.

Gaoth Dobhair 2-21 Ardara 1-7

A superb scoring blitz in the opening half from Gaoth Dobhair simply blew away the challenge of Ardara.

Two goals from the impressive Daire O’Baoill and a slew of points form Cian Mulligan, a recovered Michael Carroll and Niall Friel spurred the winner’s to a 2-12 to 1-2 lead with young Lorcan O’Donnell finding the net for Ardara.

The second half was a clear canter for the home side as Gaoth Dobhair leisurely tacked on points.

Brendan McNelis hit 0-4 for the losers but he lacked consistent support.

Burt 0-11 Termon 0-6

Those feisty dual stars from Burt advanced to the quarter finals with a well deserved win over a Termon team on the slide.

Wind-assisted Burt led by 0-5 to 0-1 at the interval with the points coming from Joe Boyle, the McHugh’s and veteran Ciaran Dowds.

But the losers also lost Declan O’Donnell who was lined early in the second half that badly stunted their challenge.

Meanwhile Burt got the vital scores from Paul McHugh and Sean McHugh as they lost county hurler Joe Boyle to a second yellow card.

St Eunan’s 0-15 Naomh Conaill 1-8

Championship favourites St Eunan’s, put in a storming second half to send out a strong signal of their intentions, at O’Donnell Park.

Opponents Naomh Conaill were the better side in the opening half and actually led at half time on a score of 1-7 to 0-6.

Ciaran Thompson struck for a goal in the 11th minute minute, cooly converting to he net to put his side into a 1-3 to 0-1 lead.

But it was a different Eunan’s on the resumption s young Niall O’Donnell walked tall and veterans Rory Kavanagh and Conall Dunne also prominent.

Four Masters 0-13 Dungloe 1-11

Battling Dungloe ensured they will be playing senior championship football next year, after this narrow victory in a thriller over Four Masters.

A well- struck goal from wing back Christy Greene in the 40th minute was the key score of this encounter where the losers had led by 0-7 to 0-5 at the interval.

Four Masters marksman Thomas McGowan ensured stretched that lead to 0-8 to 0-5 just after half-time.

But the impressive Greene brothers Conor and Ryan pushed their side to a narrow but deserved victory despite the very best efforts of the excellent Karl Lacey
