IRISH interest at the World Open in Yushan has ended after Jordan Brown and Aaron Hill both lost deciding frames on Tuesday.
Mark Allen had lost his opening match 5-3 to Daniel Wells on Monday, but things had looked brighter for Brown and Hill as they led their respective games 4-3 and 4-2 before being forced to those deciders.
World number 36 Brown had led Chris Wakelin 3-0, winning the opening frame with a 136 break and then stealing the third on the black with a 60 clearance after a 61 from his opponent. However, the world number 22, runner-up at this season’s BetVictor Northern Ireland Open in November, levelled with runs of 82 and 92, and although Brown went 4-3 ahead, the Englishman took the next two to progress.
Cork man Hill (world number 64) was beaten by China’s Lyu Haotian (28), who won the last three frames to reach the next round.
