FORMER Ireland international James McClean will join RTÉ as part of their Euro 2024 punditry team ahead of the tournament in Germany.
McClean, currently playing for Wrexham AFC, retired from international duty in 2023, his last appearance being against New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium.
The Derry man will be joined by Irish soccer legends Shay Given, Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan and Kevin Doyle, along with World Cup finalist Didi Hamann, Stephanie Roche, Stephen Kelly, Lisa Fallon and Richie Sadlier.
Peter Collins, Joanne Cantwell, Tony O’Donoghue and Jacqui Hurley will present all the action and will be joined in the studio.
All live matches will have RTÉ commentary from a team including Darragh Maloney, Des Curran, George Hamilton, Adrian Eames, John Kenny and Cathal Mullaney with co-commentators Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan, Stephen Kelly and Kenny Cunningham joining them in the German gantries.
Coverage kicks off tomorrow Friday 14 June as hosts Germany face Scotland in Munich and all 51 games will be free-to-air and live on RTÉ to those in the south of the island with 45 games live on RTÉ2 & RTÉ Player plus 6 final group games on RTÉ Player & RTÉ News channel.
Joining hosts Germany will be the cream of European football - which includes the defending champions Italy, runners up last time out England, plus France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands and, for only the fourth time, Scotland.
Declan McBennett, Group Head of Sport, RTÉ said “The Euros will stand as one of the four huge pillars of sporting coverage across RTÉ this summer and we are delighted that every game will be covered “live” as part of our offering to the audience.
“The tournament has left lasting images and memories for all of us from Stuttgart onwards and the return to Germany this year promises to be a spectacle that will fascinate us all and capture the hearts and minds of those watching and listening.”
