NEWRY City, relegated from the top flight last season, got back on track in the Playr-Fit Championship with a 2-1 victory over upwardly mobile Ballyclare Comrades at the Showgrounds on Friday night.

Barry Gray’s side had been struggling for form but led 2-0 through goals by Francis McCaffrey and Ryan McNickle before Marcus Murphy pulled one back for the visitors.

The win lifts Newry up to seventh, just a point behind former Cliftonville defender Stephen Small’s Comrades.

Saturday’s action (3pm) is headlined by leaders H&W Welders’ clash with Ards at Clandeboye Park, while Limavady - two points behind in second - host Ballinamallard.

Armagh City take on Bangor at Holm Park, Dundela welcome Annagh United to Wilgar Park and Institute tackle Newington at the Brandywell.
