Raul Jimenez became only the third player with a 100 per cent record from 10 or more Premier League penalties with his double against Ipswich on Sunday.
The Fulham forward also became Mexico’s record goalscorer in the competition and here, the PA news agency looks at his perfect record from 12 yards and how it compares to the Premier League’s best.
Spot on
– Cole Palmer has the best Premier League penalty record, 12 out of 12 after his own double in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Tottenham last month.
– Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure held the previous record of 11, with Jimenez now joining the pair in double figures with 10.
– Jimenez scored seven for Wolves and has three since taking over Fulham’s penalty duties this season. He did miss in the Europa League for Wolves against Sevilla in August 2020.
– Ivan Toney scored his first 10 top-flight spot-kicks for Brentford but his 11th was saved by Newcastle’s Nick Pope – before he netted another later in the same game.
– Dimitar Berbatov converted all nine of his Premier League penalties while among current players, Bryan Mbeumo has eight from eight for Brentford and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood is on seven from seven.
– Former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier scored 25 out of 26 Premier League spot-kicks while Danny Murphy, Callum Wilson, James Beattie and Julian Dicks all converted at least 15 while missing only once.
– Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert became the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in the competition in this season’s 4-2 win over Wolves – the Dutchman has five from five since moving to England.
Shearer tops the chart – twice
– Alan Shearer’s 56 successful penalties remain a Premier League record, 13 clear of second-placed Frank Lampard.
– Having taken 67, the ex-Newcastle and Blackburn striker also shares the record of 11 misses with fellow former England captain Wayne Rooney.
– Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored the most penalties of any current Premier League player – Sunday’s effort against Manchester United was his 30th, from 36 attempts.
Mexican record
– Jimenez’s double took him to 55 Premier League goals, with 40 for Wolves and 15 for Fulham.
– That took him clear of former Manchester United and West Ham forward Javier Hernandez as the top-scoring Mexican, having previously been tied on 53.
– Only seven Mexicans have scored in the Premier League, a list completed by Guillermo Franco and Carlos Vela with five goals each, Jared Borgetti with two and one each for Miguel Layun and current Hammers midfielder Edson Alvarez.
